Short version: I collect what I need to ship you a book, Stripe handles your card, and I don't sell anything about you.
What I collect
When you pre-order: your name, email address, shipping address, optional phone number, and the details of your order (what you bought, the shipping rate, the total). If you enter your email on the "notify me" form after pre-orders close, I collect only that email.
If you start a pre-order but do not finish, I keep the email address you typed, along with whatever of your name and shipping address you had entered by then, so that I can send you one reminder before pre-orders close and so you can pick up where you left off. Nothing else is kept — no card details, which never reach this site at all. The checkout says so beside the email field. Every such email has an unsubscribe link, and you can ask me to delete all of it at any time.
Payment data
Card details are entered into a form provided by Stripe and go directly to Stripe. They never reach this site or me. Stripe shares back only what's needed to confirm the payment (the last four digits, the card brand, and a payment ID). Stripe's privacy policy covers that processing.
How I use it
To fulfill your order, calculate shipping with USPS, print a shipping label, email you a receipt and a tracking number, respond if you contact me, send one reminder before pre-orders close if you started an order without finishing it, and send occasional updates about this book's production. Nothing else.
Who sees it
Stripe (payment), USPS and the shipping-label service (delivery), Netlify (hosting), and the email service used to send receipts. Each receives only what it needs to do its job. I do not sell or rent personal information to anyone.
Cookies and analytics
This site uses only the cookies Stripe needs for fraud prevention during checkout. There is no advertising tracking. Page views are counted on the server, which records the page, the country the request came from and the referring site — never your IP address, never a cookie, and nothing that identifies you or can be joined back to your order.
How long I keep it
Order records are kept as long as required for tax and accounting purposes, typically seven years. "Notify me" emails are kept until a reprint is announced or you ask me to delete yours. Addresses from unfinished pre-orders are deleted once pre-orders close and the final reminder has gone out.
Your choices
Email abandonedne@gmail.com to see, correct, or delete the information I hold about you, subject to what I'm legally required to keep. Residents of the EU, UK, and California have additional rights under their local laws, and I will honor them.
